Christians and Debt

Debt consolidation and Christian help

One area of financial specialization that is quickly growing is that of Christian debt consolidation help. Just as there are all types of debtors, there are all kinds of people who can provide professional help to debtors who have too much unpaid debt. Businesses that offer expert aid with financial problems are almost as diverse as the customers themselves.

Much like any other type of person, those with debt problems arrive in all shapes and sizes. Some are tall, some are poor, some earn more than others, and some are Christians. Christian debt consolidation companies are not difficult to find; you need only look online or in the Telephone book. They will clearly describe themselves as offering "Christian debt consolidation." There is no single variety of customer with financial obligations. While there are no businesses that we know of that exist just to help tall people with outstanding debt, there are companies that exist only to help financially troubled Christians.

For many consumers of faith, there is comfort in learning that there are companies that exist to help with their needs. In general, the owners of Christian counseling companies will additionally state that they are themselves Christians, and that they exist to aid others of faith who have debt problems. There is not a thing named "Christian debt consolidation", in reality; there is just debt consolidation. If such companies make you feel comfortable, then, by all means, make a phone call if you need assistance. Christian debt consolidation or credit counseling organizations usually specialize in offering aid to a predominantly Christian client base. The aid Christian professionals offer will not necessarily be any different than the help you could find at another place of business. The assistance provided by Christian organizations may be much better, much worse, or the very same. Keep in mind that just as financial help that you might obtain elsewhere won't be available for free or even inexpensive, it probably will not be cheap if you obtain it from a "Christian" financial professional, either.

There are some things you may like to think about prior to calling any debt consolidation business:

  • Debt consolidation - Consolidation of debt means applying for a new loan to pay off several other loans. Ideally, the new loan will have a smaller rate of interest than the old ones, thus lowering the overall monthly payment.
  • Negotiate a settlement. If you can persuade a lender to whom you owe $10,000 or more into settling for five thousand dollars, then you have accomplished something remarkable. Negotiating a settlement would mean discussing a payoff sum for less than you owe. Remember that the written-off debt is taxable, as though it were money you had earned.
  • If you owe more than you can pay, there are only a few different things that can be done, regardless of who assists you. The majority of debt problems are similar, and so is the list of fixes.
  • Negotiating a lower interest rate - If you can not reach an agreement for a reduced amount of money, you may be able to negotiate a smaller interest rate with your creditor, thus reducing the amount you have to hand over every month.

Those items listed above, combined with credit guidance, are pretty much the only fixes available, whether you are doing business with a Christian agency or not. The corporations that offer Christian financial counseling will still like to be paid, and their time and effort will still cost you cash. Consumers should also be sure to consider that agencies may label themselves in any way they wish, but that doesn't mean that the services they offer are any good or that they are good. Before signing up with any organization for financial assistance, you should seek out references from former customers.
